This residue can ruin your paint finish & metal parts. When working on guitars with these decomposed guards, be sure to carefully remove the pieces, then clean the nitrate residue left behind. Often, these have broken up into tiny pieces, but we have put together templates to make replacements. The 1960s Gretsch Corvette solidbodies were fitted with pickguards that have mostly decomposed now. One of the oldest music companies in our industry, Gretsch has gone through many ownership changes & has had a number of production facilities & methods. The guitars made in New York were pretty much handmade, & the pickup locations vary, so for these, we recommend our "Gretsch Vintage Universal" pickguard (PG 67V), which has the correct 1950s - 1960s shape, but no pickup notches so you can match it up to your guitar & notch for the pickups yourself. This page features Pickguards for Gretsch guitars & basses.
